Glasgow City F.C. recently received a Club Development Grant from the Scottish Football Partnership Trust. On receiving the award Jamie Beattie the clubs Head of Academy said, “We will use this club development grant for a few areas within our club. Firstly we aim to introduce a new U7 team, which will complete our youth pathway and allow us to have girl’s teams ranging from U7 to U19s. Secondly we have a plan to begin a brand new mini kickers type community programme and have this branded as our own City in the community project where we offer community classes for young children between the ages of 3-5 (name of project tbc). We would also like to deliver these classes in local nurseries when circumstances allow us to do so. These initiatives will help more young girls get introduced to football and we will ensure these projects are delivered in the same way we do with our academy teams – and that is to provide a fun, safe learning environment for as many girls as possible. Focusing on fun and enjoyment are the two main pillars for our delivery and we will promote physical activity and its importance especially at a young age”.
