Our new 2022 Club Development initiative was launched last month thanks once again to funding from our long-standing partner, The Kilpatrick Fraser Charitable Trust. The SFP Trust is committed to supporting and promoting inclusive football participation at grassroots level throughout Scotland and this initiative aims to invest in the development and growth of 60 Scottish FA Quality Mark Clubs, with a focus on increasing and enhancing participation opportunities for players and the continued development of volunteers.
Milngavie F.C., one of the biggest grassroots clubs in the Central region with over 750 playing members and 152 volunteer coaches, were recently awarded funding through this initiative to help with the costs of setting up their new intake of young players, both boys and girls, aged three to five years. James Young, coach of the mini-kickers thanked the SFP Trust and The Kilpatrick Fraser Charitable Trust for this grant and commented “This award will make a huge difference to the set-up of our team of wee ones. We have been going for just shy of a month now and the feedback so far has been very positive. The sole remit of the coaches is to ensure that each kid wants to come back the following week. We are lucky enough to be indoors for the first six weeks but once the weather gets a bit warmer, we’ll get the kids back out on the grass at our new home in Auchenhowie. The award will allow us to buy our own size three balls and not have to use the girls old kit We are also looking at a range of primary-coloured props to keep the kids engaged. We’ve started with 15 players and 4 coaches but hope to soon increase this to 30 players and 6 coaches. Thanks again for your support – it’s greatly appreciated.”
