The SFP Trust was delighted to award funding of £500 from their new Club Development Grant scheme to Thistle Youth F.C. based in Newburgh, Aberdeenshire. The club, which was set-up in 2015, currently have a playing membership of over 150 and 42 registered coaches. The initiative was developed to assist grassroots clubs in three specific areas – to increase participation by adding a new team to a club’s existing membership; to improve, enhance and sustain existing team activity through the purchase of new training equipment and/or funding First Aid training for coaches or thirdly to support Coach Education.
Thistle Youth F.C. have used this grant to support the start-up of two new girls teams at under-7 and under-9 level and you can see the girls training at their recent launch night using their new footballs and cones which were purchased to enhance their training drills. Four new female coaches have been recruited and some of the funding has been used for the Head Coach to update her first aid training and to purchase a first aid kit. Kirsty MacRae from the club thanked the SFP Trust for the grant which will allow the club to continue to grow and enhance girls football in the local area.
