Cove Youth F.C. from the Scottish FA North region were one of the recipients of a £500 award from The SFP Trust’s 2019 Club Development Grant scheme. The initiative, funded by the SFP Trust in partnership with The Kilpatrick Fraser Charitable Trust, was developed to assist grassroots clubs in three specific areas – to increase participation by adding a new team to a club’s existing membership; to improve, enhance and sustain existing team activity through the purchase of new training equipment and/or funding First Aid training for coaches or thirdly to support Coach Education.
This fantastic club, who were the first community Quality Mark club in Aberdeen, utilised their funding to assist with the costs of starting a new team for players born in 2013 which will give the club continued growth and continuity from 5 year-olds to senior football. This new team has already attracted 20 players and 5 new coaches and some of the funding will also go towards coach education for these new volunteers. Brian Johnston from Cove Youth F.C. commented “Here is a photograph of our 2013 squad at a recent SFA festival in Alford. They now have 5 coaches that have completed their first SFA coaching badges. The youngsters are playing at the SFA festivals that are being organised throughout the winter at Aberdeen Sports Village. They are a great bunch of kids, including Olivia, and are really enjoying their football. Thanks very much to The SFP Trust and The Kilpatrick Fraser Charitable Trust for their help in getting this group off the ground.”
