There was some autumn sunshine on offer for the celebration event at Annan Athletic F.C. last week to mark the end of the second 12-session block of GoFitba which was supported by The Holywood Trust and The SFP Trust. It was amazing to witness the positive power of football with the incredible volunteers at Annan Athletic F.C. and the Active Schools co-ordinator who delivered this fantastic project to children from some of the local primary schools. The children began their journey on this health and wellbeing initiative in great style by playing on the Galabank pitch each week which they enjoyed enormously. The second hour was spent learning how to lead a healthy lifestyle through diet and nutrition and every week there was a different theme in the children’s educational journal based on the Eatwell Guide. Each session was rounded off with the youngsters enjoying a hot, healthy meal with their friends followed by lots of water and fresh fruit. The children at Annan had a fantastic time on this project and you can see how happy they were to receive their medals and certificates for successfully completing their GoFitba journey to Get Fit, Get Healthy and Have Fun! None of this would have been possible without the fantastic support of The Holywood Trust and the amazing people at Annan Athletic F.C. and all credit must go to Russell Brown and his coaches who delivered the project and who go beyond their footballing duties to positively influence the lives of the children in their local community.
