Neilston Wasps F.C., a recently formed football club for boys and girls in the East Renfrewshire area, with close links to Neilston Juniors Football Club, were recently awarded new portable goalposts and portable floodlights from the SFP Trust. The new club started out with just two age groups – 2005’s and 2006’s – and in the past year have added teams to cover all age groups between 2007’s to 2011’s, with plans to continue expanding with a new age group every year.
Andy Whiteford, the club’s Community Football Development Manager commented “Since the club has seen rapid growth in numbers, we have experienced some difficulty in finding facilities where the kids can train or play, with a severe lack of appropriate venues in the surrounding area. In 2016 we were extremely grateful for the assistance from The Scottish Football Partnership Trust in providing some funding to enable the club to purchase portable floodlights and portable training goals, which has meant that we can utilise facilities that would have been unavailable to us during the winter months. This has allowed the club to grow in numbers and provide training facilities for a large number of kids from the local area and enable them to enjoy the game of football whilst keeping them active and improving their health and wellbeing. The new equipment will help the club in the future to continue to grow and provide physical activity on a regular basis for the next generation of footballers from the local community.”
