The sun shone again this week in Kilwinning for week 3 of FooTea, allowing the kids from St. Winning’s and Pennyburn Primaries time on the astro-turf to learn new dribbling skills to help develop their spacial awareness, speed of thought and motor skills. With the help of coaches Colin and James, the young players were taught how to dribble with both feet using basic turns and acceleration around the markers. They were encouraged to keep their heads up and to scan the pitch whilst running with the ball – and it’s fair to say they all excelled at this task! The kids loved the quick pace of this exercise and used their new talents and technical skills in their small-sided games – there were lots of exhausted, but happy players at the end of the training session – watch out Ronaldo and Messi – the kids from Kilwinning are kicking up a storm! The classroom session this week focussed on the importance of water and hydration and the youngsters learned that water is ALWAYS the best choice and drinking fluids before, during and after exercise helps them stay alert and have extra energy. Next it was up to the Café for some of Sandra’s delicious Bolognese, followed by apples, strawberries and grapes – all washed down with plenty of water. We look forward to seeing Gwilym, James, Dylan and the rest of the kids again at week 4 of FooTea when we will be concentrating on energy sources.
