Wick Academy F.C have been given an award from The Scottish Football Partnership to assist with the cost of installing a new drainage system at Harmsworth Park.
John Briskham, Wick Academy FC executive committee member said,
“We started to get problems with standing water on a few areas of our park. We organised a drainage contractor to come and have a look and he discovered that we had a couple of issues that we really had to address. We had one area of drainage that had collapsed and wasn’t working correctly, and we also had an area of our pitch that had developed a “pan” of compacted soil. This was stopping the surface water from getting through into the existing drains.
We discussed the problem with the Scottish Football Partnership and they advised us that grant funding would be available to assist us with the work that we’d need to undertake to fix the issues. With guidance from the SFP, who were excellent throughout the entire process, we completed a grant application and this was approved.
We started work as soon as our season finished, and the contractor’s diggers rolled into the Harmsworth Park and within the space of a few weeks the work was completed.
We hope that the work that has been done will address the drainage issues that we had, which will minimize disruption for both our Scottish Highland League fixtures, and our Cup games.
Wick Academy is very grateful to the SFP for their advice, assistance and the grant funding which was made available to us for carrying out the project. “
