We were all back at Kilwinning for Week 4 of FooTea last Friday with the kids from St. Winning’s and Pennyburn Primaries. This week saw the kids concentrating once again on the theme of dribbling, with coaches Colin and James helping the kids to develop their new skills and at the same time raising their confidence, encouraging them to listen and adhere to the rules, boosting their decision making and urging them to respect their fellow players and coaches. The kids were fantastic as they practised continuous dribbling around the markers, moving quickly and cutting across each other as they tried to score. There was additional ball work too – keepie uppies and heading the ball – Harrison was particularly good at this, as was Harley and Haydan. This week’s nutritional education focused on energy levels and the different types of food that help supply that energy and how important it is to have three well-balanced meals and 3 well-balanced snacks each day if youngsters want to keep their energy levels consistent. Energy levels are certainly not low at Kilwinning – the kids are all always excited, enthusiastic and animated at FooTea!! The children had all worked so hard and certainly deserved their chicken and vegetable curry and rice which had been prepared for them, followed by bowls of tangerines and pears. The curry was such a success that there were demands to take some home too! Week 5 will see the kids concentrate on developing their techniques on the pitch and they will also focus on the nutrients that the three main food groups can provide in their diet.
