Haddington Athletic Community F.C., a Gold Level Quality-Mark club from the Scottish FA South-East region recently contacted the SFP Trust for funding to help purchase portable floodlights. This fantastic grassroots club and their volunteer coaches help provide football activity for over 385 local children and the SFP Trust was delighted to be able to assist with an award from its Grassroots Football Facilities Fund which was established with investment received from the Edinburgh philanthropist, Mr. James Anderson.
Colin Bowsher, Chairman of the club’s Youth Section was grateful for the funding received and commented “This award will be used to purchase 8 portable floodlights which will be used on grass adjacent to our 3G facility at Whittingeham Drive and at Millfield, Haddington where we play 9 a-side and 11 a-side games and host fun 4 festivals for all East Lothian teams. This will greatly assist our club as we are a fast growing Youth Section with 385 children that is continuing to grow. Our girls section has doubled in size recently and as a result of this together with most age groups increasing in size, we are struggling for space at our 3G facility, particularly for training purposes. The addition of these portable floodlights will allow a number of teams who are only training once per week to train twice per week. It will also provide an alternative location to facilitate goal keeping training. 11 aside teams who train on one third of our 3G facility will be able to use the floodlights to train on half a full park and this in turn will allow our younger age groups (girls and boys), more opportunity to train at our 3G facility, rather than at the Aubigny Sports Centre, where they are currently training.” Colin also took this opportunity to thank both Mr. Anderson and The SFP Trust for choosing to invest in Haddington Athletic CFC and for supporting their young players.
