Last Friday saw the conclusion of the first 12-week block of FooTea at Kilwinning Sports Club and our showcase event was attended by the Minister for Public Health and Sport, Aileen Campbell, MSP. The 20 children from St. Winning’s and Pennyburn Primary Schools were delighted to welcome along their special guest, as well as their parents/carers and Mrs. Milson, Headteacher at St. Winnings. The session started off with the kids developing their agility in their hour of fun football before moving into the classroom to impress Aileen with their knowledge of health and nutrition! She was certainly amazed at the range and depth of their awareness and was particularly interested to hear of their healthy food swaps and the positive lifestyle messages which they will take with them from their time on the course. Special thanks must go to everyone at Kilwinning Sports Club, especially Colin Hunter and James Harnett who have guided the children through their fitness sessions each week. Centrestage provided the healthy food last Friday and it was the kid’s own choice of homemade tomato soup followed by macaroni and cheese that made it on to the menu, which was enjoyed not only by the children, but by their family members as well. Certificates and medals were presented by the Minister before she spent some time chatting and engaging with the children. We will miss all the kids who have attended the first 12 weeks of FooTea– they have all been eager, enthusiastic and an absolute pleasure to teach – however, we look forward to welcoming the next block of children later this month to FooTea to help them …. Get Fit, Get Healthy and Have Fun!
