We have now just passed weeks 10 and 11 of FooTea at Kilwinning Sports Club where the football hour saw the kids brushing up on their defending skills and then work on their agility, speed, balance and co-ordination. The children all worked well in their individual teams, all the while being encouraged by coaches James and Colin to play the ball wide and put crosses into the box. Rylie, Alishea and Leona all scored and again Bailley, Aidyn and Harley all managed a hat-trick when they came to playing their small sided games at the end. The nutritional section focussed on the dangers of eating too much sugar and salt and the kids were aghast to see that a 600ml bottle of soft drink contained 12 teaspoons of sugar – yuk! No such levels of sugar were evident in their meal which followed – homemade lentil soup, followed by baked potatoes and then some fruit! Next week is the last Friday of the 12 week block at Kilwinning Sports Club and it has been an absolute pleasure getting to know the children and seeing them develop over the duration of the course – from their agility on the playing field to seeing the knowledge which they have gained during the education section on healthy eating – they are an absolute credit to their parents and the teachers at St. Winning’s and Pennyburn Primary School.
