It was great to see the kids again from Eastfield and Westfield Primary Schools at Week 3 of FooTea at Cumbernauld Colts. The classroom session this week focussed on the importance of water and hydration and the youngsters were taught that water is ALWAYS the best choice and drinking fluids before, during and after exercise helps them stay alert and have extra energy. It was then on to the pitch and with the help of the coaches, the young players were taught how to dribble with both feet using basic turns and acceleration around the markers. They were encouraged to keep their heads up and to scan the pitch whilst running with the ball – it was fantastic to see how they all excelled at this task! The kids loved the quick pace of this exercise and used their new talents and technical skills in their small-sided games. There were lots of exhausted but happy players at the end of the training session and they certainly enjoyed their pasta Bolognese in the café which was washed down with lots and lots of water! We look forward to welcoming the kids back to FooTea when, in week 4, they will be concentrating on energy sources and the variety of foods that their bodies need to grow, be active and maintain good health.
