Melrose F.C. from the Scottish FA South East region recently received a £500 grant from The SFP Trust’s 2020 Club Development Grant scheme. The initiative, funded by the SFP Trust in partnership with The Kilpatrick Fraser Charitable Trust, was developed to assist grassroots clubs in three specific areas – to increase participation by adding a new team to a club’s existing membership; to improve, enhance and sustain existing team activity through the purchase of new training equipment and/or funding First Aid training for coaches or thirdly to support Coach Education.
This fantastic grassroots club who provide activity for over 250 players playing fun fours to 11-a-side games chose to use their award to purchase kit and equipment for their new U-11 and U-13 girls’ teams. Head Coach for these teams, Gordon Clark said “The club committee, coaches and players are absolutely delighted with this award. It will make a real difference in terms of kit and equipment provision for our two new girls teams, allowing the players to be part of a real club identity as well as helping contribute to our club philosophy of one club for all, rather than distinct boys and girls clubs. It is also worth noting that we applied for the award following encouragement from the Scottish FA South East region, in particular David Baird. The support from David and the SWF has been superb and we look forward to having the two new girls’ teams playing in the SWF leagues next year. Thank you again to the SFP Trust and The Kilpatrick Fraser Charitable for this valuable funding.”
