Greenock Morton F.C. recently received a Facilities Award from the SFP to assist with the upgrade of the away end of Cappielow Stadium – known as the “Wee Dublin” end – an area used for matches that attract a large away support. Due to the summer promotion of the club to the Championship, the club recognised the need to improve many facilities around the ground, particularly the need to create a suitable area for away fans in the “Wee Dublin” end to allow them to enjoy their matchday experience at Cappielow. The three key areas of the project involved the replacement of the existing old iron gates; the upgrade of the toilet facilities including the installation of a new disabled toilet and to repair the stairwells as well as upgrading the access and egress pathways. Warren Hawke from the club commented “that the primary benefits have allowed Cappielow Stadium to offer an excellent away section for the teams that carry high numbers of travelling supporters and have enabled the club to offer a safe and secure environment that maximised the capacity of the stadium and assisted greatly with the segregation. We would like to sincerely thank The Scottish Football Partnership not only for this funding but for the excellent guidance we received at all stages of the application process.”
