East Lothian 3G Pitch projects

The Scottish Football Partnership is pleased to announce the successful completion of three new 3G Community football pitches in East Lothian. The SFP has provided financial support to the anchorGrassroots football clubs in each facility (North Berwick Colts, Preston Athletic Youths  and Dunbar colts) and the projects were delivered in partnership with Sportscotland and East Lothian Council.

Tim Day, Cabinet spokesperson for Community Wellbeing, said: “I am delighted that East Lothian will be served across all of its clusters with a 3G pitch. These facilities really do make a significant difference to the quality of experience for both players and coaches and provide additional opportunities for improving performance. I would like to thank Sportscotland for again supporting the council with the delivery of the 3G pitches and the Scottish Football Partnership for supporting local clubs and contributing to the overall delivery of the project.”

Stuart McCaffrey, Secretary of The Scottish Football Partnership said: “We are committed to assisting football at all levels in Scotland and these fantastic new community facilities will be of  huge benefit to the Grassroots level of the game. If we want to increase participation in football we have to encourage young people to take up and play the game. Having facilities like those recently opened in East Lothian are key to the overall growth of the game. It is always worth remembering that every elite player starts his or her career off at a Grassroots club. It fills me with great encouragement to hear that at this early stage, Preston Athletic Youths have already added 30 new players to their membership”.
