The SFP has made a funding Award to assist Kilwinning Rangers F.C. purchase a new set of stadium goalposts. Kilwinning Rangers are a semi-professional football club who play in the super Premier 1st Division of the West Region Scottish Junior F.A. They have been members of the Association for over 100 years. Over the years, the stadium and playing surface at Abbey Park in Kilwinning has fallen into a state of disrepair and for the past two years, the present Committee has been actively involved in restoring the facilities to an acceptable standard. One of the main concerns related to the goalposts which were made of heavy steel with steel fixed ringlets to attach the netting. These goals had fallen into a poor state and were considered to pose a danger to players during a match and it was agreed that as a matter of priority, they should be replaced with new goalposts which met current standards. John West, Secretary of the club said “Since the new goalposts have been installed, it has now provided a safer environment for those participating in sport at the ground. Along with the other improvements to the playing surface and stadium, the goalposts complement the improvements and provide a more professional appearance. Everyone at Kilwinning Rangers F.C. is most grateful to The Scottish Football Partnership for their support of our club.”
