Lasswade Thistle F.C. from the Scottish FA South East region recently received an award of £500 from The SFP Trust’s 2019 Club Development Grant scheme. The initiative, funded by the SFP Trust in partnership with The Kilpatrick Fraser Charitable Trust, was developed to assist grassroots clubs in three specific areas – to increase participation by adding a new team to a club’s existing membership; to improve, enhance and sustain existing team activity through the purchase of new training equipment and/or funding First Aid training for coaches or thirdly to support Coach Education.
This fantastic club who were established in 2011 offer football to youngsters from the local community and are rapidly growing. They now have over 130 children playing football across 10 different age-groups and you can see some of the youngsters from the club’s 2012 squad here. The club opted to use their grant to put as many of their volunteer coaches as possible through First Aid training to benefit the youngsters. Andy Colbridge, Secretary at Lasswade Thistle F.C. said “We would like to thank The Scottish Football Partnership Trust and The Kilpatrick Fraser Charitable Trust for this award. Since receiving the funding, we have undertaken First Aid training with 12 coaches making the newer, younger teams fully compliant and we have also started a 2013 squad, so the club is growing all the time, however, we can do this safe in the knowledge that the guys have First Aid qualifications to safeguard the children’s welfare. Without this funding and support it would be hard to support the continued growth of the club and we thank you for your support.”
