Chirnside United F.C. received funding from The Scottish Football Partnership Trust to assist with the cost of erecting floodlights on the clubs newly developed training area. Duncan Morrison from the clubs committee said; “Our new modular LED lights are a significant upgrade on what we previously had on our old training area and this improved lighting has resulted in the whole training area being much better utilised by our club. Training is no longer restricted to the areas where the lighting columns stand which in turn means less stress on the training ground playing surface and less cancellations. The training area is now used 4/5 times a week by the various teams associated with the club ranging from boys and girls football where activity takes place 4 nights a week and the men’s amateur side which train twice a week. The most noticeable and positive impact we have seen is the consistent high number of adults and children continuing to train when the darker nights arrived, normally we see numbers tail off but this has not been the case, which is excellent for a small but well established club like ours. The impact of funding from the Scottish Football Partnership Trust cannot be underestimated for smaller clubs like ours and the difference this makes not just to the club but the people in our small village who now have greater opportunity to get involved in football at a time that suits them. We cannot thank them enough for the support they have given us”.
