Newmachar United F.C. from Aberdeenshire were recent recipients of a £500 grant from The SFP Trust’s 2020 Club Development Grant scheme. The initiative, funded by the SFP Trust in partnership with The Kilpatrick Fraser Charitable Trust, was developed to assist grassroots clubs in three specific areas – to increase participation by adding a new team to a club’s existing membership; to improve, enhance and sustain existing team activity through the purchase of new training equipment and/or funding First Aid training for coaches or thirdly to support Coach Education.
This grassroots club provide activity for over 180 local kids and are supported by 40 fantastic volunteer coaches who give of their time freely to help develop the club’s 11 teams playing fun fours to 11-a-side football. The club chose to use their award to assist with the start-up costs of a new 2015 team which included the purchase of new training equipment. You can see some of the youngsters pictured here – how happy do they look! Brian Johnston from the club thanked the SFP Trust and the Kilpatrick Fraser Charitable Trust for this funding and said “The grant has helped the club start a 2015 group so we can keep the pathway going at the club. With the grant we managed to secure the local Community Centre for training and purchased training equipment to add to the balls and bibs supplied by McDonald’s/SFA so the kids have the best experience possible. From the initial interest of 5 children we are now at 19 kids who love their weekly sessions.”
