The UK’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) announced a pledge to invest up to £100m in grassroots sports facilities across the country.
Our community sports clubs and organisations are in desperate need of our support, especially given the increasingly difficult economic climate we are living through. This funding will provide crucial financial assistance, giving clubs and organisations the help they need to continue providing sporting opportunities.
The government will work closely with football authorities across the UK to ensure this investment is helping those who need it the most. Deprived areas will be a key target, and efforts will be made to enhance participation across underrepresented demographics, including women, disabled people and ethic minorities.
Part of the funding will be used to bolster the Pitching In project, a joint initiative by The Scottish Football Partnership Trust and the Scottish FA that will facilitate the installation of 40 new 3G pitches, the upgrade of 50 existing pitches and the renovation of 75 changing rooms across Scotland.
Speaking about the news, The Scottish Football Partnership Trust CEO Sandy Hodge said: “This announcement is fantastic news for grassroots football in Scotland. The Scottish Football Partnership Trust is delighted to collaborate with the Scottish FA to enhance infrastructure, increase participation, and promote health and well-being across the country.
“Through our ‘Pitching In’ campaign, we are committed to raising £50 million over the next five years in partnership with the Scottish FA. This announcement builds on our recent successes and maintains the momentum needed to achieve our goals.
“On behalf of the entire grassroots football community in Scotland, we extend our sincere thanks to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport for their continued support.”
