SFP Community Initiative – Celtic F.C. launch new Employability Project

Thanks to funding from the Scottish Football Partnership’s Community Initiative, an exciting and unique new employability project for school children has been launched by Celtic FC Foundation.

The funding will allow Celtic FC Foundation to work with 16 school children who are in S3-S6 to prepare them for the world of work.

The pilot project, which will run for 10 weeks and works with children on a one-to-one basis has an impressive timetable and focuses on the softer skills that employers look for, and also recognises that not all children will move into further education, some will move straight from school into employment without any experience of an employer’s expectations.

The children on the project will benefit from a variety of sessions including, CV preparation, mock interviews, life skills, resilience, dress for success and communication skills.

Celtic FC Foundation is working closely with Celtic FC to bring the wealth of experience that their staff have to the project.  Celtic FC staff will carry out Q & A sessions with the children to allow them to learn about different sectors and the skills required for working there.  They will then have the opportunity to design their own Christmas themed celebration event to demonstrate what they have learned and achieved while on the project.

Recognising the importance of a holistic approach, physical activity is also an important part of the project and sessions vary from football to circuits and gym work and are delivered by experienced Celtic FC Foundation coaching staff.

Tony Hamilton, Chief Executive of Celtic FC Foundation said: “The lasting benefit of this project to the wider community will be that although many of our young people come from third generation unemployment, we will provide them with the opportunity, experience and skill set to understand employment and help them to become resilient, adaptable and determined to succeed.

“At Celtic FC Foundation learning is a key pillar of what we do. Meaningful education is a crucial factor in enabling people in our key geographical priority areas to have worthwhile opportunities.”
